KILLDEER, N.D. - Representatives from Vision Zero, along with school administrators welcomed Killdeer Public School as the latest Vision Zero School at a school assembly today.
Sixteen student leaders who are featured in a traffic safety banner and public service announcements (PSAs), picked distracted driving as their safety emphasis. The students chose distracted driving due to the location of Killdeer. Hwy 200, Hwy 85 and Hwy 22 are all in the vicinity of the town. Those three roadways are important not just to oil traffic, but everyone in the area.
Student leaders presented the banner and PSAs to their peers at the assembly and juniors and seniors had a chance to drive the SIDNE (Simulated Impaired Driving Experience) go-cart.
“Distracted diving is a common issue in our town and surrounding areas,” said student leader Josey Anderson. “As a partner of Vision Zero, our goal is to minimize the amount of crashes that occur by spreading safety awareness.”
“Today’s world has several dangers with one of those being distracted driving,” said School Resource Officer Deputy Jonathan Avalos of the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department. “If we can push this issue at a young age, we can make a difference.”
Killdeer joins Kidder County, Flasher, Oakes, and Des-Lacs Burlington as a Vision Zero School.
