Leier Attends, Judges at California State FFA Convention
At the beginning of April, David Leier, one of Killdeer Public School’s Agricultural Education teachers and FFA advisors, spent three days at the California FFA Association’s state convention held in Sacramento, CA. His trip was part of an effort by California FFA to recruit impartial judges for many of their state-level Leadership Development Events (LDEs). At the direction of the California Agricultural Teachers Association, registration fees for the state convention were increased to help offset the costs of recruiting out-of-state judges to evaluate individuals and teams at the state’s highest level of competition. Last fall’s fourth-place national finish for the Killdeer FFA Chapter Parliamentary Procedure team put Mr. Leier’s name on a short list of potential judges supplied to California FFA’s State Advisor Charles Parker by the National FFA Organization. After accepting Parker’s invitation to serve as a judge, Mr. Leier traveled to Sacramento April 2nd-5th. As a finals round judge, he collaborated with a panel of out-of-state guests to evaluate and rank the six finalist teams, as well as identify outstanding team chairs. In addition to judging the contest finals, he also experienced many other elements of the convention, including the career expo and general convention sessions. All of us at Killdeer Public School are grateful to have dedicated professionals like Mr. Leier providing incredible opportunities for our students, and are excited that he has been recognized for his outstanding work.
